A novel approach will be adopted engaging with a wide range of educational audiences from Primary through to Post Primary, the FE Sector and students in Third Level Education. Emphasis will be placed on linking the programme of sport with Science, Technology, Engineering and Maths (STEM) study and careers which have been identified as an economic driver for Northern Ireland going forward.
A key element of the initiative will be social inclusion – ensuring that young people from rural and urban deprived areas are engaged with the programmes and activities. Therefore, the programme will involve both activities within the Odyssey and also an outreach element in the build up to a programme of events w/c 27th November.
The objectives of this project will be:
- To raise awareness within society of the role of the NCAA in Belfast and STEM in Sport, with a targeted programme for rural and urban deprived communities within Northern Ireland.
- To raise awareness of the importance of active lifestyles, linked to international and local sports within Northern Ireland, health and well-being.
- To challenge stereotypes, challenging the misconceptions and preconceptions of children’s and young people’s views on Sport, STEM study and STEM and sporting careers available in Northern Ireland and globally.
- To highlight how engaging with Sport can impact on young people’s lives in the future, generating more active and engaged citizens.
