The NCAA men’s ice-hockey season is well up and running (skating!) and, with only five weeks remaining until the 2016 NI Connection Friendship Four, take a look at how this year’s four tournament teams got on in last weekend’s action!

Quinnipiac University Bobcats

Quinnipiac are arguably the favourites for the 2016 NI Connections Friendship Four title after being ranked #2 overall in the first USA Today/USA Hockey Magazine Poll of the 2016/17 season.

The Bobcats played back-to-back road games against the University of Maine with both going to Overtime! Friday saw Maine take a 4-3 win with Quinnipiac taking a 3-2 win on Saturday with goals from Tim Clifton, Craig Martin and Tommy Schutt helping to inflict a first defeat of the season on Maine.

Next up for the Bobcats are three games in quick succession. First up is a home clash with UConn on Wednesday, followed by Saturday against Boston University on the road, then a clash with fellow NI Connections Friendship Four competitors, UMass on Tuesday 25th October.

St. Lawrence University Saints

The Saints completed an impressive weekend sweep – defeating the University of New Hampshire and Merrimack College at home. Friday’s 6-2 win over UNH was a great team performance by the Saints with five players recording one goal and one assist as twelve players recorded at least one point to help the Scarlet and Brown improve to 2-1-0 on the year.

Ben Finkelstein and sophomore Michael Ederer notched their first goals of the season to help the Saints to a 4-1 win over Merrimack College on Saturday night in Appleton Arena to complete a weekend sweep.

The Saints return to action with two road games on Friday & Saturday against the winners of the 2015 Friendship Four – UMass Lowell as well as a trip to Providence College.

University of Massachusetts Minutemen

UMass were not in action last weekend with their next two fixtures coming in the next seven days with Army West Point at home on Friday 21st October before a taster of what is to come in the 2016 NI Connections Friendship Four with a clash against Quinnipiac on Tuesday 25th October!

University of Vermont Catamounts

Like UMass, the University of Vermont were not playing last weekend and next up for the Catamounts are back-to-back road games on Friday 21st and Saturday 22nd October against Nebraska Omaha.
